What is the Online Audio Muter?

The Online Audio Muter lets you silence any part of an audio file — or the entire thing — directly in your browser. You can choose to mute a precise region of a track, such as removing a cough, a distracting background noise, or a section of content you don’t want in the final file, while leaving everything else intact.

The tool uses a visual waveform editor so you can see exactly what you’re silencing before you apply it. All processing runs locally via WebAssembly.

How to Mute Audio

1. Upload your file — select the audio file you want to edit.
2. Choose mute mode — pick “Mute Region” to silence a specific section, or “Mute All” to remove all sound from the track.
3. Select the region — if muting a section, drag the selection handles on the waveform to mark the area to silence.
4. Apply — click the mute button and wait for the new file to generate.
5. Download — preview the result and save the silenced file.

Use Cases

Remove background noise — silence a section where a car horn, door slam, or other sudden noise disrupts an otherwise clean recording.

Bleep out content — mute a specific word or phrase in a podcast or interview recording before publishing.
